Who you are buying from

Nobody here works on commission. If a watch is wrong for you we will say so, and we would rather it sat in the cabinet another six months than went to the wrong wrist.

Halden & Roe started as a repair bench above a jeweller on Leather Lane in 1974. We still repair, which is the reason we can be blunt about what we sell. Every watch is stripped far enough to know what is inside it, timed over four days, and listed with the faults left in the photographs.

What happens before it reaches you

Bought in person

We look at the case back before we talk about money. Anything with a replaced dial or a polished away lug goes back to the seller with an explanation.

Stripped and cleaned

Movement out, mainspring replaced, jewels checked under the loupe. Old lubricant comes off in an ultrasonic bath rather than a wipe.

Timed in five positions

Dial up, dial down, crown left, crown up, crown down. We print the trace and it goes in the envelope with the watch.

Photographed honestly

Daylight, no retouching, scratches left where they are. If the lume has gone patchy you will see it before you visit.

Selling a watch

We pay for the watch,
not for the story.

Bring it in on a Wednesday or send photographs of the dial, case back and any papers. You get a figure the same day, in writing, with the reasoning attached. If the movement needs work we tell you what it will cost us and you can decide whether to keep it and have us do the job instead.
